I grew up in Wyoming as the youngest of five children with two brothers and two sisters. I received my calling in ministry in 1997 while attending Casper Community College in Casper, WY. I transferred to Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE and received a Bachelor of Arts in Music with the emphasis on Vocal Performance and a minor in Theatre Arts. I received my MDiv from Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO in 2008. After seminary, from 2008 to 2011, I pulpit supplied and was an interim pastor for several churches in Wyoming. Then, in February 2011, I moved to Tennessee and began serving in the Memphis Conference. Since 2011, I have served several churches in both the Memphis and Tennessee Conferences. I was ordained in 2015 as an Elder.
I am married to an absolutely wonderful woman named Amanda, who is a rock for me and a spiritually strong woman. She is co-owner of Taylorwood Salon & Med Spa. We have two boys: Jonathan, who loves computers and science, and Keegan, who loves playing on electronics and helping his mother and father. We also have a dog and a couple of cats.
If I had to describe myself in three words, I would say compassionate, passionate, and hopeful (persistent fits right in there as well). I am a true believer in having hope and how hope can guide us in both the present—as we look at who God is calling us to be as people of love and grace—and into the future—as we, without fear, celebrate God’s just and saving purposes coming to fruition.
The foundation of my faith comes from 1 John 4:7-21. This is a wonderful passage that puts the entirety of all Scripture into perspective within a few short verses. (It is also a Scripture based upon Christ’s two Great Commandments: love God and love neighbor). God is a God of love. Out of God’s love, we were given both Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. God’s love and grace is stronger than anything we know, and when we respond fully to God’s love, we can live as people without fear with one another and for one another.
